Self isolation. It’s been more than two months of this reality for all South Africans and people across the globe. At least for now, it seems to be here to stay in some form or another.
“The new normal”, as it's been referred to, is far from enjoyable for the majority of us, as we miss family, friends and even work!
How do you keep happy and healthy during these strange times? Well, keep busy! Seems painfully obvious but pretty difficult considering we’re confined to our homes for the majority of the day. Here are a few tips and tricks to try to make the most of this lockdown period.
Self Isolation – Tips and tricks to stay positive and strong
1 Get outside!
The latest relaxing of the lockdown regulations has finally allowed us to head outside and enjoy it again. Regardless of the obvious health benefits, being able to get out and do something that isn’t inside your home should be motivation enough.
Use this latest “freedom” wisely, but definitely use it. Keep it local, and keep it safe with a face mask and social distancing. Take this opportunity to take up jogging or walking, especially if it’s something you’ve never been interested in before. Unlike most sports, it requires almost no equipment.
If anything is going to get you through the lockdown, it will be time outside and fresh air!
2 Set goals when self-isolating
Covid-19 hasn’t been a fun time for any of us, but it has given us a chance to sit back and take stock of our personal situations. A little time re-evaluating what is important to us and what we want to achieve in this new coronavirus world.
Even if you’ve never set goals before, now’s the time to do it. Don’t be overambitious – set short- and long-term goals that you know are achievable. The best way to get into goal setting is to have a few successes under your belt.
Tell a family member or friend about your goals and ask them to keep you accountable. Even if it’s a simple goal of saving R5 a week, ask them to check in with you regularly.
3 Family time… lots of it!
One thing lockdown has given us is a lot of time with those we love. Whether you live with your family or not, it’s the perfect time to reconnect with your loved ones – so make the most of it!
Make plans to chat regularly by setting up online chats with both your immediate and extended family. Your options are almost endless.
4 Let’s get cooking during isolation
If you’ve ever wanted to learn to cook a specific dish or figure out how to bake something, there’s no time like the present. We’ve all been cut off from visiting our favourite takeaways and restaurants, meaning we’ve had to do more cooking at home…
Like anything, it can get monotonous and boring if we do the same five things over and over again. We’re blessed to live in a world where we have access to some of the best chefs in the world through YouTube and other online cooking publications. So get online and take a little look around – you’re sure to find a lot of inspiration!
5 Go for a trip
Well, not in person. One of the side effects of lockdown, and the travel bans, is that a lot of your favourite hotels, safari camps and travel websites have had to get really creative. The world of digital travelling has really exploded, with everything from digital game drives to live sunset streams.
Whether you’re a traveller or not, it’s a great time to see parts of the world you never imagined.
Covid-19 and the ensuing lockdown has changed all of our lives. But the one thing it has really shown each of us is that we need to have a back-up plan. Get your health back-up plan with GetSavvi Health. Click here, fill in the 'Get A Quote' form and we’ll call you!
